We love our families, and our families love us. Read what they have to say!
Staley came to My Choice and could not communicate except to make loud noises: she was an the ESE student at a local elementary school. After a week, the Director told Staley that unless she used words, we did not know what she wanted. After a month, she knew the name of her school, teacher and friends. Staley loved art, music and computers these were used as incentives to help her communicate and they worked. During our Open House celebration, her father stated, “My daughter has learned more in the past six-months that in her first six-years of life.” She is now attending high school and doing well.

LeVonte never came to the program with homework, even when the teachers promised to send it, they always forgot. He was labeled as mentality challenged which allowed him to act out every day. LeVonte was very mischievous, always interrupted the teaching or activity taking place, but he loved to help clean up. My Choice used this as an incentive to learning; he could not help cleanup unless he read and reviewed his spelling list each day. This technique worked and LeVonte started bringing homework daily and making A’s in reading and spelling for the first time.

One day Tatyana (Tots) brought in her progress report showing zeros in 30-minute reading and handwriting, when asked why she had zeros in reading, she stated that she did not have any books at her house. My Choice allowed Tots to complete her 30-minutes of reading at the Center and when she finished each book, it was hers to keep. Tots received her report card and was so elated because she had made the honor roll for the first time. Her handwriting also improved.
